For the past two weeks I have been toying with the word “Internet of Things” or widely known as IoT. It started when I attended the 54hours Hackathon Startup Bootcamp at MAGIC and the idea of Qaut came about.
Since then, the law of attraction kicks in and I came about to read and discuss topics around the internet of things and the Analytics of Things (AoT).
What exactly is the Internet of Things (IoT)?
Well, simply said, it is EVERYTHING that is connecting and with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other). The relationship will be between people-people, people-things, and things-things.
This includes everything from cell phones, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, wearable devices and almost anything else you can think of. This also applies to components of machines, for example a jet engine of an airplane or the drill of an oil rig.
It is like we are now living in the MATRIX! The movie that hits our world in 1999, is now making a lot of sense to me!
The analyst firm Gartner says that by 2020 there will be over 26 billion connected devices! That’s a lot of connections and endless business opportunities!
We are living in the world that it is no longer a science fiction – it’s science fact. IoT brings the physical and digital world together, it will revolutionize our lives.
